Book Lunch Talks (BLT) Next Week!
The theme for December's Book Lunch Talks is Fantasy Fiction.
5th/6th Grade BLT is on Tuesday Dec 6th during 5/6 lunch
3rd/4th Grade BLT is on Wednesday Dec 7th during 2/3/4 lunch
BLTs are open to all EMES students in grades 3 through 6.
During a BLT students bring their lunch to the library, discuss a book from the month's theme with peers, staff, and parent volunteers, and share a special snack. Interested students sign-up in the library in advance and are ready to talk about a book from the theme of the month.
Any parents who wish to volunteer to help facilitate small group discussions during a BLT should email Arlyn.

Book Lunch Talks: November
Book Lunch Talks
About 20 students from 5th and 6th grade came to talk about this year’s Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award nominees. The DCF Book Award is open to all VT students who are in 4th through 9th grades. Each year 30 books are nominated. The titles include a variety of genres. To vote a student must have read at least 5 of the nominees. Students who had read at least 1 DCF book were invited to the 5th/6th grade Book Lunch Talk (BLT) for November. Any student who had read 3 or more by this point were asked to vote for their favorite. The winner to date is Dream of Night by Heather Henson.

We also had a 3rd/4th grade BLT this week. We had 25 students from the 3rd and 4th grades come to talk about Realistic or Historical Fiction. Students discussed their favorite characters and story events from these books with peers and staff members.
For example a group of students who were talking about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series agreed that they enjoy reading this series not only because of the characters but that the events of the books are funny and that they seem like they could happen to any kid.

Special thanks to the EMES staff and parents who volunteer to spend their lunch breaks helping facilitate the BLTs. Parents who are interested in volunteering for BLTs are encouraged to email Arlyn for upcoming dates and times.
