Beebot and Robot Turtles

During Technology time this week, first graders worked on sequencing skills by programming Beebot and playing Robot Turtle.  Robot Turtle is a board game where students use cards to write programs to move their turtle to their corresponding jewel.  Students use cards to write programs and an adult reads the program and moves the piece.  Having the adult move the piece helps the students focus on the direction and orientation of their turtle and how that connects to the sequence of the program. Beebot is a programmable 5 inch long bee.  Students use buttons on the top of Beebot to program it to move to specific locations on a grid.  This week's Beebot challenge asked students to roll 2 dice and move Beebot to the numeral on the grid that matched the sum of the numbers on the dice. Both Beebot and Robot Turtle are engaging ways for students to develop and practice their understanding of sequencing and spatial orientation.
